Reducing Protein Imports

 
The EU currently imports about 40 million tonnes (around 80%) of its protein requirement annually.  This is often in the form of soy meal from South America.  As part of the bio-refining process, the facility will produce approximately 177,000 tonnes per annum of high protein animal feed.  It will be possible to replace some imports with this high protein feed.
